Information Communities
What is an information community? In Information Services Today (2022) , five characteristics of information communities are given :
Emphasis on collaboration among diverse information providers.
Capacity to form around peoples needs to access and use information.
Capacity to exploit the information-sharing qualities of emerging technologies.
Ability to transcend barriers to information sharing.
Capacity to foster social connectedness.
(Fisher, Fulton, pg. 43).
In my first post I will be introducing a community that I belong to. Throughout the rest of the semester we will be learning together about a different information community and I will be sharing my process of discovery.
