Information Communities

What is an information community? In Information Services Today (2022) , five characteristics of information communities are given :

  1. Emphasis on collaboration among diverse information providers.

  2. Capacity to form around peoples needs to access and use information.

  3. Capacity to exploit the information-sharing qualities of emerging technologies.

  4. Ability to transcend barriers to information sharing.

  5. Capacity to foster social connectedness.

(Fisher, Fulton, pg. 43).

In my first post I will be introducing a community that I belong to. Throughout the rest of the semester we will be learning together about a different information community and I will be sharing my process of discovery.
